Cheap & Cheerful

This is my song, I love it. Alison Mosshart is like a mix of Alison Goldfrapp, Siouxsie Sioux, and Juliette Lewis in "Natural Born Killers" in this video. Love.

Glamour-holics Anonymous

I made a couple of indulgent purchases today, including a fur coat and a fur cape, among other things. They look amazing on, but I couldn't help but feel a little guilt as I tried them on. I literally had to go into the back room of the shop and find them, as all the fur had been taken off the racks until next winter. The way I see it, they're vintage, they've been pre-loved, and I'm giving them a second lease on life. They could have ended up in the junk bin, now that would have been a real shame.

Playground Love

It may be gray and snowing out, but I'm feeling the Spring Fever. My brain is overloading on oxytoxins. I feel all giddy. I love this time of year, right on the cusp of patio weather, sunshine, and long summer days. It reminds me of being out of school for the summer, carefree, your only concern being how much fun you could pack into the short summer months. I have a feeling this summer will be absolutely amazing. I'm moving into a fab new apartment and our magazine is going to be stellar. I'm impressed that this is all taking off, I really am. Everything is pretty much perfect.

Jerk It Out A Little Bit

Just a few songs I'm really feeling at the moment. The Villains remix of "Little Bit" is instantly infectious, and the blippy organ of "Jerk It Out" makes me want to dance. As for Thunderheist, I get to see them live a week from today!

Little Bit (Villains Remix) / Lykke Li

Jerk It Out / The Caesars

Jerk It Out (Dirty Disco Youth Remix) / The Caesars

Jerk It (Nacho Lovers Remix) / Thunderheist

Happily Ever After

One of my favorite movie scenes. Charlotte Gainsbourg & Johnny Depp in the French film "Ils se marièrent et eurent beaucoup d'enfants" (roughly translated as "They Lived Happily Ever After" in English). So romantic.

Peaches & Cream

I'm really looking forward to seeing Peaches live in a few weeks, and I'm excited about her new album, "I Feel Cream" (hahaha!). Working with the likes of Digitalism, Simian Mobile Disco and Soulwax, this may be one of her best albums yet!

C'est BON

I’m very excited that BON’s Spring/Summer 2009 issue is finally out! BON is one of my favourite high-fashion magazines. It’s based out of Sweden and is published bi-annually (Fall/Winter & Spring/Summer) and to me, it stands out against some of the other fashion mags on the shelf. Ever since Johan Avedal took over as the new art director for BON, I’ve been thoroughly impressed. He changed the logo and changed the whole look of the magazine. Every single page is beautifully designed and you can tell that the folks over at BON have an amazing eye for detail. They even use different paper stocks, from super-glossy to matte paper for the index in the back. And it smells amazing, that crisp new-magazine smell. If you are lucky enough to find an issue, pick it up! Not bad for ten bucks.

Even more exciting, Lou Doillon (her mother is Jane Birkin, her sister is Charlotte Gainsbourg, her step-father is Serge Gainsbourg) is a new contributor to BON magazine. Her illustrations are quite lovely.

Cut & Paste

While flipping through this month's issue of Interview magazine, I came across the work of artist Francesca Gabbiani. Her meticulously created artwork is made of tiny pieces of cut-out paper. Drawing inspiration from rococo mirror frames, Alice in Wonderland, and the films of director Dario Argento, Francesca's work invites the viewer to come up close and explore. Only then will you see your own face reflected in the black space enclosed in each one of her paper frames.

Spring Fever

Spring so far has been so much fun. I went to see DJ Spider, I got my art shown at Artlife Gallery, I was in the Factory Party advert, and Factory Party #5 was nothing short of amazing. My friends and I are going to Steve Aoki this Sunday, and then Thunderheist, and then No Doubt for my birthday. I live fabulously and I love my friends. :)

The Young & The Reckless

I was pleasantly surprised to see British it-girls Daisy Lowe and Peaches Geldof featured in the this month's W Magazine. The editorial shoot is titled "Law & Order" and it was shot by Steven Meisel.

J'adore Pierre et Gilles

I've posted about Pierre et Gilles before, but I cannot get enough of their work. I find it so appealing, the juxtaposition of religious imagery, gay imagery, the glitter, the intentional kitsch. I think one of the reasons why I'm so drawn to the work of Pierre et Gilles is because it brings back memories of my early childhood growing up in Mexico City. My grandmother would take me to this church that had life-sized statues of Saints and Jesus. I'd find them terrifying, gruesome, but also appealing. It's the mixture of fear and curiosity that has always stuck with me. If you like what you see here, visit the Pierre et Gilles website for more. They have more controversial works, but for now, here's a small selection of some of my favorites.
