Meddle Mixes

I recently stumbled upon a couple remixes of "Meddle" that I really like. They're polar opposites of each other, but they're both really great. The first is the AC Slater and DJ Skeet Skeet mix. What makes this mix one of my favorites is the added rap by Goldielocks. The second is the Piano & Tenorion version of "Meddle", which is a bit more downbeat. **On a side note, I'm off to see My!Gay!Husband! tonight. Should be fun!

GaGa Unplugged

We all know Lady GaGa as a disco diva, producing polished dance hits drenched in electro & synths. But underneath the glitter and gloss, she’s equally amazing. With the recent release of The Cherrytree Sessions EP, GaGa shows us what she’s got. As much as I love her glitzy pop gems, I like seeing this different side of her too. One of my favorite Lady GaGa songs is an unreleased demo called “No Floods.” It’s a stripped down song, where Miss GaGa’s voice and piano take center stage. Have a listen.

Factory Boy

So, Factory Party was nothing short of amazing! A great evening of music, art, and fashion. Everyone looked amazing, Calgary's fashion scene is growing by leaps and bounds. The girls looked beautiful, like an army of modern-day Edie Sedgwicks. And the gentlemen were dapper in a variety of creative ensembles. I can't wait for Factory Party #5!

Hello, My Name Is German Bold Italic.

"German Bold Italic" is one of my very favorite Kylie Minogue songs. It's a collaboration with Towa Tei, formerly of Deee-Lite (GBI even contains a small sample of "Groove Is In The Heart"). The song itself is basically about a typeface. A non-existant typeface, at that! It's very different from any other Kylie song, and very rare to find as well. I LOVE the video for the song too. I love the song so much, I had THIS made.

M/M Paris

M/M Paris is a design group founded in 1992 consisting of Mathias Augustyniak and Michael Amzalag. It's likely that you've seen a lot of their work already, especially if you're familiar with fashion ads and Björk. M/M Paris are best known for thier art direction and design for artists such as Madonna (American Life album) and Björk (Vespertine, Medúlla, Volta, Greatest Hits...). They've also worked with many fashion designers including Stella McCartney, Calvin Klein, Nicolas Ghesquière, Yohji Yamamoto, and Jil Sander. Flip through any fashion magazine and you're bound to see some M/M Paris!

Note: The "White Soft Rope" image was made using The Alphabet (2001), and The Alphamen (2003), two projects by M/M Paris based on creating typography out of portraits of models.

She's A Little Bit In Love With You

I can't get enough of Lykke Li. 'Youth Novels' is on constant play on my iPod. Here's a couple of tracks to enjoy. A sweet, acoustic version of 'Little Bit', and a killer remix of 'Breaking It Up' (thanks Branden!).

Drawn To Fashion

I came across the artwork of Cocopit while flipping through an issue of Bon Magazine. I was struck with the delicate lines, the muted color palette, and the attention to detail. You can actually recognize the famous faces of top models in Coco's work. Jessica Stam, Agyness Deyn, Tanya Dziahileva and Coco Rocha are all delicately rendered in pencil and ink.

"I find inspiration in a wide variety of places. Living between Paris and London I feel at ease with the visual landscapes of both cities. As art and fashion capitals, they are a byword for innovation, creativity and metropolitan edge.

I tend to start my work by experimenting with old-school processes such as painting, drawing and ceramics, before designing the final image digitally.

I like to mix several techniques but aim for restraint and minimalism in the finished work as I like the results achieved from combining these two approaches."
