Just thought I'd share one of my all-time favorite songs with everyone. It's the epic Extended Mix of "Yes Sir" by Goldfrapp. This song has everything I love... it may be a cover, but Alison Goldfrapp turns it into an electro-glam disco gem worthy of Studio 54. So they may only have a couple of singles under their belt, but The Golden Filter are quickly becoming the ones to watch. Their brand of synth-driven disco gems are reminiscent of Hercules And Love Affair and Goldfrapp, and I love it. Having remixed songs by Cut Copy, Little Boots, Empire Of The Sun, and Polly Scattergood to name a few, and with a spot on the new Kitsuné Maison 7 Compilation, The Golden Filter are on the cusp of a nu-disco revolution.
Summer is here and it's time for drinking, dancing, and summer lovin'. Here's my selection of tracks to ease you through the summer months. Happy summer!
Annie's latest single, the Richard X produced Anthonio, tells the story of a steamy one night stand with a fictional hunk named Anthonio. Annie ends up pregnant with his kid, but Anthonio is nowhere to be found. It's my song of the summer right now, and the remixes from Designer Drugs and Fred Falke are superb. But I have to say, the Berlin Breakdown Version is my favorite.
Just a few songs I'm really feeling at the moment. The Villains remix of "Little Bit" is instantly infectious, and the blippy organ of "Jerk It Out" makes me want to dance. As for Thunderheist, I get to see them live a week from today!

I kind of love this song. If this were playing at the club, I'd get down. I'm also amazed at what Ciara can do with her body! My gosh, she's limber. And the girl looks Dangerous.
The new Bat For Lashes album is one of my most anticipated albums of the year. And I was super excited after seeing the official video for "Daniel". I like it.
Just thought I'd share some new-ish tracks from one of my idols, Debbie Harry. She really paved the way for women in pop music, in my humble opinion. Without her, there might not have been a Madonna or a Kylie.
I've loved Róisín Murphy ever since her days in Moloko. And I loved her first solo album, "Ruby Blue". But it was with her second solo album, "Overpowered", that I became a devout Róisín super fan. It blew me away like no album had done in a long time. If you haven't heard it... you really should. Here's a little megamix featuring the best of Róisín in Moloko and as a solo artist. I've always been interested in the New York Club Kid scene of the late 80s and early 90s. If you've seen the movie "Party Monster", you know what I'm talking about. Michael Alig, James St. James, Richie Rich, Amanda Lepore, and Sophia Lamar were all a part of it. So where are our Club Kids now? Alig is in prison, convicted for the murder of his drug dealer. St. James published the book "Disco Bloodbath" and has appeared as a guest judge on America's Next Top Model. Richie Rich, along with Traver Rains, launched the hugely successful HEATHERETTE fashion line. Lepore and Lamar are now both successful models/recording artists. Amanda has become the muse for photographer David LaChapelle, and Sophia is featured in the Scissor Sisters video for "Filthy/Gorgeous".
We've seen a resurgence in the whole Club Kid scene in recent years with The MisShapes and (the now defunct) BOOMBOX in London, where stars like Kylie Minogue, Róisín Murphy and Siobhan Donaghy went to get their groove on.
My!Gay!Husband! on Saturday night was great. A whole lot of dancing to Little Boots, Lykke Li and Ladyhawke. Here's one of the songs they played that made me lose my mind.
I recently stumbled upon a couple remixes of "Meddle" that I really like. They're polar opposites of each other, but they're both really great. The first is the AC Slater and DJ Skeet Skeet mix. What makes this mix one of my favorites is the added rap by Goldielocks. The second is the Piano & Tenorion version of "Meddle", which is a bit more downbeat. **On a side note, I'm off to see My!Gay!Husband! tonight. Should be fun!
We all know Lady GaGa as a disco diva, producing polished dance hits drenched in electro & synths. But underneath the glitter and gloss, she’s equally amazing. With the recent release of The Cherrytree Sessions EP, GaGa shows us what she’s got. As much as I love her glitzy pop gems, I like seeing this different side of her too. One of my favorite Lady GaGa songs is an unreleased demo called “No Floods.” It’s a stripped down song, where Miss GaGa’s voice and piano take center stage. Have a listen.
"German Bold Italic" is one of my very favorite Kylie Minogue songs. It's a collaboration with Towa Tei, formerly of Deee-Lite (GBI even contains a small sample of "Groove Is In The Heart"). The song itself is basically about a typeface. A non-existant typeface, at that! It's very different from any other Kylie song, and very rare to find as well. I LOVE the video for the song too. I love the song so much, I had THIS made.

I can't get enough of Lykke Li. 'Youth Novels' is on constant play on my iPod. Here's a couple of tracks to enjoy. A sweet, acoustic version of 'Little Bit', and a killer remix of 'Breaking It Up' (thanks Branden!).
The legendary Cyndi Lauper returned last year with the release of ‘Bring Ya To the Brink’. Working with artists and producers like Basement Jaxx, Kleerup, Dragonette, and The Scumfrog, the result is one of Cyndi’s strongest albums to date. Full of pop hooks, 80’s-inspired synths, soaring vocals and a dollop of disco, this is definitely one of my favourite albums of 2008. Standout tracks include the club hit ‘Into The Nightlife’, the Kleerup produced ‘Lay Me Down’, as well as ‘Set Your Heart’, ‘Echo’, and ‘Grab A Hold’. Although the album did not receive much promotion or radio play, it truly is a gem and makes the cut as one of my favourite albums ever. Check it out on iTunes or at your local record store, it’s well worth a listen.
