J'adore Pierre et Gilles

I've posted about Pierre et Gilles before, but I cannot get enough of their work. I find it so appealing, the juxtaposition of religious imagery, gay imagery, the glitter, the intentional kitsch. I think one of the reasons why I'm so drawn to the work of Pierre et Gilles is because it brings back memories of my early childhood growing up in Mexico City. My grandmother would take me to this church that had life-sized statues of Saints and Jesus. I'd find them terrifying, gruesome, but also appealing. It's the mixture of fear and curiosity that has always stuck with me. If you like what you see here, visit the Pierre et Gilles website for more. They have more controversial works, but for now, here's a small selection of some of my favorites.

The first and second pictures are my faves, I think. I love the sad sailor boy.
